Storyline
A sniper on a mercenary assassination team, working for an unknown
client, kills the minister of mines of the Congo. Terrier's (Sean
Penn's) successful kill shot forces him to go into hiding to protect
himself and the members of the team from retribution. This includes
abruptly abandoning his girlfriend who has no idea what is going on. The
assassination, paid for by a foreign mining company, triggers wide
spread chaos and death in an already inflamed Congo. Terrier returns to
the Congo years later working for an NGO, but eventually finds himself
to be the target of a paid hit squad somehow connected to the ministers
assassination. This leads to immediate deaths and the endangerment of
the people working around him, and forces him back into hiding. In
trying to discover who has put a price on his head, he begins to
reconnect to the members of his old assassination team, including his
old girlfriend. Always aware there is no path to redemption for his

While
this is not Ethan Hunt (not sure why you'd advertise this so that
people might confuse this with Mission Impossible, but then again, it's
all about the money a movie makes or how many will recognize something,
even if it's not there), this is a very well done low key spy movie,
with some very good acting.
The budget was obviously not that big, but you get your fair share of action scenes and car chases. Everything is kept "realistic" (still a movie, still things heightened, but not to a Hollywood degree). If you can dig that, you probably will like where this is going (with some nice touches/twists along the way).

It's
rare that I score a movie above 5/10, it's rarer still that I'd take
the time to review such a movie, but this one deserves it.
I found the script fascinating, the dialogue and character progression was exceedingly fluid. In an age where CGI defines ratings it's refreshing to find a fantasy genre done with a focus on role-play and make-up/props.
In a way it reminded me of the storytelling found in titles like "The Princess Bride" or "Labyrinth", but softened by the Indie budget.
Without a doubt this movie would appeal to fantasy fans of the 80's & 90's, but as entertainment I'd recommend it to everyone.

Scientists predict we may lose half the species on the planet by the end
of the century. They believe we have entered the sixth major extinction
event in Earth's history. Number five took out the dinosaurs. This era
is called the Anthropocene, or 'Age of Man', because the evidence shows
that humanity has sparked this catastrophic loss. We are the only ones
who can stop it as well. The Oceanic Preservation Society, the group
behind the Academy Award® winning film THE COVE, is back for "Racing
Extinction". Along with some new innovators, OPS will bring a voice to
the thousands of species on the very edge of life. An unlikely team of
activists is out to expose the two worlds endangering species across the
globe. The first threat to the wild comes from the international trade
of wildlife. Bogus markets are being created at the expense of creatures
who have survived on this planet for millions of years. The other
threat is all around us, hiding in plain sight. There's a hidden world
that ... Written by

An incredible factual documentary, delving into the destruction that human beings are having on our precious planet.
The documentary is incredibly insightful! The creators have gone to great extent to backup their scientific facts.

My
quick rating - 6,6/10. A futuristic (1997 is the future in this movie)
look at the planet running out of water ala Mad Max. The movie itself is
such a tribute to the 80s flicks including the midi music, the time
frame, clothing, etc. that it then makes sense that the future is 1997.
Same basic idea but cross that with Kick Ass and an extreme amount of
blood and guts. This was a fairly solid movie that held its own on all
accounts. It even sprinkled a little love twist between our star and a
quirky robot girl. The action is edited nicely to keep a solid look to
it. The actors play their parts just fine (not like Michael Ironside
EVER has a problem playing a bad guy.) Apple (Laurence Leboeuf) The
female robots facial expressions throughout the movie almost seemed
painful to pull off. CGI maybe? lol. Anyway, a very well made and
violent flick that will surely garner a slight cult following just as
Kick Ass did. I can see sequel potential out of this one and look
forward to it. Definitely check it out if you get the chance and have
fun with it. I can assure you the film makers did just that.

Storyline
In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted
by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and
an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster
would inspire Herman Melville's Moby-Dick. But that told only half the
story. "In the Heart of the Sea" reveals the encounter's harrowing
aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and
forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation,
panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest
beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade,
as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first
mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

I
went into the cinema expecting something fairly decent. Something that
would at the very least, satisfy. I I was more wrong than I thought. It
was better than satisfactory. It was brilliant. The Effects are the best
of the year, and Chris Hemsworths Acting is top notch. Ron Howard has
always been a great director, and I did enjoy a beautiful mind and
Apollo 13, but this film has to be one of the greatest of the year. The
film is very emotional at times, and the storyline is very well thought
out. Definitely deserves an Oscar for best visual effects, and hopefully
it will bag some more Oscars on the way.
The movie is best viewed on the big screen, as it possibly wouldn't have the same effect on a TV. Get into the cinemas before it's too late.

Just
got back from seeing the documentary film "Meru" in the theater. I will
probably write more on it later, as there's just too many thoughts
swirling now 'round me head. And perhaps none of you will see the
writing (I'll stick it on IMDb. But the short story is it's truly a
marvel. And not just one of the best docs I've seen but one of the
greatest movies I've seen in a VERY long time. There's such an immersing
story there, and the 3 principle characters are fleshed out so
impressively that by the end you really are emotionally invested in each
and feel you understand deeply what motivates and scares each of them.
It's a film which really shines a light on big ideas of motivation,
inspiration, brotherhood, insane, I mean INSANE perseverance and really
broad almost sports movie clichés territory. But they nailed it!
Honestly this film takes on such subjects in such a way as to put to
shame most of the "feel-good", "overcome the impossible", "overcome so
much to follow your dream" - type films. And the fact that it's a true
story is just all the more awe inspiring.
And yeah, can't stress it enough, each of the three climbers' back stories are just so dramatic, and interesting. Any one of the three could have a nice documentary film made about them. It actually is crazy how many awesome story lines exist here, how many twists and back stories exist in this documentary and how nicely they tie all three of their lives together so beautifully.
Oh and it's about climbing a mountain, what more beautiful built-in cinematography can you ask for? And what better built-in metaphor can you want for any goddamn goal you may have in life?
It's astounding. If you can see it, I highly recommend it. It is just about the most purely INSPIRING film I've ever seen.

The
new Transporter, who comes in the shape of Ed Skrein, has some big
shoes to fill taking on a role that helped make Jason Statham a bona
fide action star. I've only seen Skrein in one previous film, whilst
I've seen nothing from director Camille Delamarre. But I'm certainly
more familiar with Ray Stevenson, who plays the father of Frank Miller,
a.k.a., The Transporter. In this regard, it's quite obvious that a
Connery/Ford father- son dynamic has been sought, which gives the
tiniest bit of personality to a film that falls completely flat from the
onset and rarely picks up. The story is familiar -- the Transporter
gets a job driving a package, the job goes wrong and he's in deep. It
gets personal when his father is kidnapped, but with no grit on its
wheels and Skrein trying in vain to create a new persona for this
character, what it ultimately amounts to is flash cars, sexy girls,
suits and stunts, but nothing more. Much like a glorified car
advertisement.

isn't one of those must see movie blockbusters, and would probably be
one of the last choices for anyone to watch for the month.
On the other hand, its much easier to arrange a group movie outing as the chances of everyone watching that is pretty low ;)
The ratings for this particular movie are quite bad(reference Rottentomatoes), which is no surprise as most crude comedies are rated so. It wasn't as crude as I expected it to be though.(then again maybe thats because it was moderated in Singapore)
To sum it up, we went in with low expectations. But! I could hear the hall filled with laughter through-out the movie! and we came out smiling and discussing about the funny parts as well. All in all an enjoyable movie experience :)
Yes, it's not gonna win any awards or sure. but for anyone looking for a light-hearted movie packed with laughter, WATCH THIS! :D I was honestly afraid of drinking my soda for fear of spurting it out from laughter.

Loved
the first Divergent movie. Then read all the books and thought Neil
Burger did a great job turning the first book into an accurate and
entertaining film. I was so sad to know he was not directing Insurgent.
And after seeing Insurgent, that sadness was justified.
Robert Schawkle or whatever his name is did an awful job making the 2nd book into a movie. The 2nd book was lamer than the first, but it had a much easier plot to deal with. This movie strayed so far from the story in the book, title should be Insurgent Undone.
They even had a bigger budget for this film, yet made it shorter in length, cramming scenes in with minimal creativity and almost zero character development. Almost everything that occurs is not true to the narrative in the book. Johanna appears to have no scars on her face and she's fat, wtf. The entire villain of Jeanine is tarnished by a completely different take on her motives. Book readers of this story should not watch the film nor appreciate its utter suckiness. Did the director even glance at the book? Did Veronica Roth really approve this movie? I am appalled?

A
bit uneven and too long (It takes the movie about 30 minutes to really
kick into gear). Otherwise I enjoyed the plot of slowly figuring out
what is Tomorrowland and what's the purpose behind it all. So it's not a
perfect film but a long way from the failure it's made out to be. Brad
Bird doesn't disappoint.
I have read quite a lot of negative comments about this movie and even its message and I find that to be slightly odd. From saying science should only concentrate on inventions instead of research to being annoyingly preachy. God forbid if a movie has a message these days and despite it having an agenda I thought the movie was fun and entertaining.
I personally found the message of the movie to be pro-science and to fight the cynicism and apathy that makes it seem it's impossible to save the world from the direction we're going in. I usually feel there's no hope for the human race but I like to see movies that try to convince me otherwise and try to keep the small glimmer of hope alive.

If
you're a teenager looking for some adventure that isn't all "dark" and
"gritty" - the buzz words of films nowadays - then you may enjoy this.
If, however, you can't stop asking WHY? constantly, then you'll most
likely end up hating it.
The Maze Runner wasn't a very good film; in fact, I only watched this because I was in the room with somebody who wanted to see it, so I gave it a chance just to see if an explanation for the first film came about.
The surviving teens from the Maze Runner link up with kids from other Mazes, and the first one of them to arrive at the prison-like complex shows Thomas, the film's hero, enough to make him question a conspiracy against the teens... that soon leads to them making an escape.
With zombie-like creatures beyond the complex, the teens go from out of the frying pan into the fire, as they discover that they are immune to the virus, which is why the were sent to the mazes in the first place.
Okay, so if they're immune, why did one of them get infected? No, that's not a spoiler, it's actually what we all expect to happen given the amount of zombie films we've all seen, but if you can let that go, you can carry on.
The teens then reach a settlement and decide that they want to hook up with the resistance, because The Hunger Games are so popular. I mean, there may be another reason, but in an apparently hopeless world, one would imagine that their best bet would be to seek out land to cultivate and become the new leaders of society... after all, isn't that what the Glade was preparing them for?
No, it wasn't. In fact, the motives behind the first film are never explained, but instead just become more and more ridiculous as the plot plods along, cliché and cliché. Let's face it: if Wicked already has medicine but requires the immune teenagers to obtain it, why stick them all in Mazes around the world to watch them get killed off?
If you can get past that, the end is another big cliché that absolutely no-one will ever see coming (irony), and then Thomas stands up, gives a speech and we can expect the decimated "resistance" to rise up against the evil enemy who doesn't seem to use lethal force against them, despite them using real bullets on Wicked's troops, in a third installment.
I bet you can't wait for it.

Well
the movie is really different, i felt sad for the main male character
with his behavior, the sex scenes are really strong but not from another
world, I was not horny, in any sex scene, i just see trying to
understand the director point of view, and i hope i did understand
this...natural,humans,sex,internet,porn,bisexual and a lot of other
things that is happening and will happen in the future, i liked the
movie and I did not like, i am giving 7 because the director did a
really great job to express the reality of the movie
love, behavior, choices and sex. Excellent cinematography, average
performance / odd of the actors, good soundtrack
of course. My
Opinion i am not the master of cinema, but i don't undestard why
credential critics give so many bad talk of this movie, i am sure some
of they watched/watch porn and/or do sex.

A
visually impressive, intelligently adapted, atmospheric version of a
very famous play. Michael Fassbender is stunning in the title role. What
an actor he is! Brutal and sensitive, cruel and caressing, he handles
the verse effortlessly, the fights viciously, and he radiates a huge
wattage of charisma. He and Marion Cottilard make a convincingly sexy
couple. She is not obvious casting - usually the role is the province of
more steely performers. All the same, she makes a success of it,
forceful in the electrically effective banquet scene, and touchingly
melancholy as she drifts into the deep depression of her mad scene.
The supporting cast is terrific, the technical side superb, the score by the director's brother mesmerising. I have a couple of quibbles: the emphasis on interiority makes the pace feel insufficiently varied, and so much close-miking gives the impression that too much of the text is whispered. But on the whole this is a bravely envisioned, powerfully acted movie.

I don't usually write reviews but I had to for this one!!!
As a child, Cinderella wasn't my go-to Disney classic. It never fully captured my heart. Now, when I heard they were making another Cinderella movie, I was like oh gosh; but who knew I would be wronged. I knew about the Frozen Fever short and thought it will probably be what I'm most excited for then Cinderella! Frozen Fever was boring and Cinderella was amazing! I was blown away by it! You think that because you knew the story already and it being predictable to what will happen later on will bore you out but I was looking forward to what will happen next. It made you forget about what you already knew. The little differences that Kenneth Branagh added to the storyline, yet kept true to the Disney animated film was fantastic! There's been so many twist and darker plots to Disney films nowadays that to see something traditional like this being made really makes me happy. I was wowed by the cinematography. The production designs and costumes just blew me away. Everything was so detailed and perfect. The fact the majority of the sets were built and then you see the parts where you knew CGI was needed, was also well done. I only knew Helena Bonham Carter, Hayley Atwell, and Cate Blanchett going in (they were magnificent). I didn't know Lily James or Richard Madden, but their chemistry was off the charts! If the two people that was suppose to be in love did not have that going, I think I would of really not enjoyed it as much; but thankfully they were oozing with chemistry. They were perfect for the role. My complaint is they did not have enough screen time! I got lost in Prince Kit's eyes too many times. And the music was beautifully written! I had a ear orgasm if possible. I left the theater happy, smiling and feeling like I've been magically transformed back to when I was a child.
"Have courage and be kind" -- what a great message for young kids nowadays and even for adults. All my life, its always been hard to have courage and be kind but its something I strive in being day by day. I hope kids will take this message to heart.
I believe this movie is one of the best Disney live-action remake and retelling of a classic story that we all knew as a kid, but maybe a little better. I still like the classic but I can tell you, you will see me watching this one over and over. What a great family movie, not just for kids but for adults too. My inner kid came out and I'm almost 26 now. Don't think too much and just enjoy the movie. Just be a kid again.

Comedy
is tragedy + time, right? We're now over 7 years out from the apex of
the American financial crisis, which spiraled outward across the world,
and yet what has really changed? People are still making
millions/billions off the suffering of others, corporate control reigns
supreme, fraud is common and remains largely unknown, wealth continues
to be ever more concentrated in the grasp of a few, and the remainder of
the populace are treated as proverbial rats and made to feel uncouth
should they question the system and question not wanting to live their
lives playing this sadistic game. Taking 2 pennies and selling them to
someone for a hundred dollars remains a legal activity, just call those
pennies by a different name and suddenly it's okay to pass them off as
fair market.
It doesn't sound funny at all, but The Big Short succeeds in turning this demented and corrupt circus into something improbably hilarious and probing. The power of comedy is its ability to let us see something from a different viewpoint, allow us to process it in ways we wouldn't have been able to otherwise. As we might laugh at children for the hilariously unaware things they say and do, so too will humankind in the future hopefully laugh at how completely pathetic and ignorant our present society has been. Martin Scorsese opened the flap up into the circus entrance with "The Wolf of Wall Street" and, while making good points, was perhaps a bit too concerned with his own technique and had a bit too much indulgence reveling in the frivolity of it all. The Big Short completely blows the top of the circus and dissects it in every way, starting with the widespread fraud and greed in business, and then examining how it has seeped into our entire existences. Even the good guys here are ultimately out there to make money, lots of it. Isn't that what society tells us we must to do, in order to be valuable? It's sick.
McKay's approach here is "throw everything in, including the kitchen sink" and that creates an energetic, brilliantly matched representation of the subject matter. This does not mean he is lacking control, however. The story being told includes so many facets and characters that it easily could have fallen into disarray, but McKay makes every single character memorable and illuminates every piece of jargon that could be confusing from the outset. It's a huge accomplishment and a far more important one than might seem apparent. The things that were allowed to happen in the realms of business, finance, and banking are absolutely INSANE and unbelievable. It has to be largely comedic because there's no other way of delivering this vast amount of information and complete failure of our entire society and make it all snap into place so continuously, without being ripped apart by the overwhelming darkness of it all. This isn't simply circumstantial and theoretical and mysterious to a degree, as in Oliver Stone's "JFK", but the cold hard truth.
It's not enough to even ask for the truth anymore and ask for answers, we need to question the entire system, a whole web of poisonous bonds that have tightly wound themselves so entirely around us. The work of the film itself is allowing us to project our thoughts, our fears, our anger, and our confusions into this convoluted conundrum. All while being told the truth, so that we at least have a place to even start down the correct path of understanding. It's acting as our own investigative journey in a time when actual news and journalism has become a tiny spec of its former self. We now have more information than ever available to us, yet it's often so shrouded and twisted as to become unrecognizable. There are still those who fear education for what it would do to their own position in life, how it would challenge their own reality. We are still held under the thumb of "greed is good", "thinking you're inherently better is good", "vanity is good".
The shiny mainstream hallmarks of a typical Hollywoood commercial product - the agreeable lighting and manicured actors and tidy locations - are so perfectly representative in this film of the emptiness within the characters and indeed in our entire society. After all the progress we think we've made towards world peace and human rights and medical advances and the stability of the human race, have we lost sight of what a fulfilling life and a world of justice should really be? Aren't we still captive to the same pointless rituals and superficialities, doesn't a veritable monarch and royal court still control most everything? We are now living our lives working for something that can be wiped out with the stroke of a keyboard. We are told something of monetary worth that is non-existent, for all intents and purposes, is something we should strive for. Making a bet on the outcome of another bet is a whole industry. The non-existent and ridiculous and pointless directly hurts the lives of many.
The Big Short is one of the most important films of this era and one of the best. I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. It is an illumination, a magical pairing of a director's sensibility to exactly the correct form that most fully allows it to blossom and hold water. It is water which the film warns us will be the next basic human necessity to be denied by those few who hold power.
